Have you noticed the algorithm change on LinkedIn?

NEW WEEK Commencing 11 February

Every week I review what I have been doing on LinkedIn. Not only does it asct a great record of everything that I have ever done, it also helps me work out what works and what doesn’t and help me to keep my content relevant and helpful.

My figures have shot up this week, specifically due to a number of engaging posts. One of which happened because I bumped into a LinkedIn sceptic and we had a good debate that I brought to my audience!

Views Last Week 1,852 viewers in the last 90 days. 174 people viewed my profile

Views This Week 1,814 viewers in the last 90 days. Small increase of 4% 195 people looked at my profile this week which is up again on last week.

Followers Last Week 6,816 - This Week - 6,873 I added 57 extra followers again this week.

Hashtag Follows Last Week 120

Hashtag Follows This Week 124 Another 4 were added this week.

SATURDAY 11 February 950 impressions

I’ve just started on Tik Tok. It’s my idea to get more people to LinkedIn so if they see me creating helpful content on there, they will come over to my beloved LinkedIn. Well, that's the plan.

In order to do this I have enlisted the skills of Michelle Haslam to help me and what better wya to launch on Tik Tok than to let my LinkedIn audience know. Hence this post.

I used Canva to get the images right and had a statement to share what I was doing. Because this post seemed more corporate it didn;t do as well as I was hoping.

What do you do if you want to get onto a new social media platform?

💚 You get help.

💛 You learn from an expert.

💚 You spend a bit of time.

💛 You start off slow.

I am working with the wonderful Michelle Haslam who is a #TikTokpreneur and knows a few things about Tik Tok.

It's ok, I have not been learning the macarena or oiling up my abs. 😂

I'm taking it easy with the gentle help and guidance from a specialist who knows what works on this video-based platform.

My first 'practice video' was apparently TOO STATIC. This is the first time that anyone has accused me of this. 😂

But, what Michelle went on to explain is that we do not use tripods for our videos on Tik Tok. It has to be RAW!

I have a lot to learn, but if you want to see my efforts please follow me and my journey on Tik Tok.

In the meantime, Michelle is learning about LinkedIn so between us we are helping each other to grow on alien platforms.

I look forward to our Friday sessions even though I am struggling with the intricacies of Tik Tok. But it's great to learn new things and push us outside of our comfort zones. 💚

It also makes me realise how my students must be feeling when they are in a session with me.

I promise to be slower 💛

What are you learning? Are you collaborating? How is it going?

SUNDAY 12 February 4,014 impressions

What do you do when you have a decent lunch, but is out of the ordinary then? You take a photo of course.

You take the photo because it could be used for content in the future and the future was the very next day for me.

It’s a simple photo of a fishfinger sandwich, but with a carefully constructed first line tothe post I thought that this would do well. I had nothing to lose with the very low ratings from the last couple of weeks.

People we really engaged because they too like simple food and many had their own versions of what they like so we had some good fun with this post.

What do you reckon?

Is this Food Porn?

Do you ever have moments on 'not sure what to have for lunch'?

This was us yesterday and Debbie (My wonderful wife) reminded me that we had fish fingers in the freezer.

We do not normally have these in the house, (Deb's father gave them to us because he didn't like them. 😂)

So what do you do with fish fingers and a leftover brioche bun?

I tell you what, you have an incredible lunch.

💚 It's not nutritious

💛 It's not culinary genius

💚 It wasn't even taxing to make

But OMG was it delicious.

This reminded me that not everything has to be CORRECT to be brilliant.

Some things work and we shouldn't waste time figuring out why but enjoy the moment.

What has been brilliant for you that wasn't perfect?

Is it illegal to put ketchup in a fishfinger bun?

How many calories were in my lunch?

Have a brilliant Sunday, even if it isn't quite perfect ❤️

MONDAY 13 February 2,148 impressions

Every Monday it’s my 5 ideas video. Brilliant and with a sea view, what’s not to like?

What content works on LinkedIn?

ANYTHING works, it's just about consistency. And that doesn't mean every day.

Even ONCE a WEEK is consistent and it's easier to do something if it's kept simple. Start at one per week and build up to something that works for you.

Every Monday I produce my Monday Nudge, 5 ideas to help you to come up with content.

And I produce this video. (And I've started another one on my fledgling Tik Tok channel)

Here are my ideas for this week, but I go into much greater detail in the video.

💚 Valentines Day

💛 17 Feb - Random Acts of Kindness Day

💚 Food Porn

💛 UK Athletics Indoor Championships

💚 Customer Service

If you have any other ideas please let me know.

If you want a hand with content give me a shout as I have a Content Masterclass next week where we'll dig deep with creating content, confidence tips and help.

Have a fantastic week.

What will you write about?

Are you gonna create content?

Previous Week

I only had 509 impressions this week , 8 Reactions, 9 comments, and 0 Reposts

116 views watched by 104 viewers with 36 minutes this is massive drop. Really not sure why either. This week has been very low for engagement.

This Week was so much better

I had massive 2,148 impressions this week , 29 Reactions, 47 comments, and 0 Reposts

509 views watched by 481 viewers with 171 minutes viewed. WOW So much better than last week!

TUESDAY 14 February 1,516 impressions

Valentines day today , but as I am running my LinkedIn Daily Habit Workshop this week I wanted to get some comments flowing from my delegates.

I often talk about this topic and used it as a post a month ago, but this werved well to remind people to get engaged on posts.

What do you think?

Here’s the post. No image either!

Do you Comment, Like or do you just Scroll?

What would you do if we met in real life?

I bet you wouldn't just put your thumb up eh 😂

For me, Commenting is the Currency of LinkedIn. It's where all the conversations happen, it's where we find out a little bit more about the people we are interacting with.

It allows us to show our real personalities.

It's a way for us to add a little bit of value to a post.

And it helps us to establish a relationship with other people.

When you comment on someone's post try to add some value and if you use 7 words or more it turns into a conversation and is more than just a platitude.

Think about how you like to be spoken to in real life and try to bring that to your comments.

And add an emoji here and there to help convey the real meaning of your comment.

If we use LinkedIn like we are in a real-life network meeting it makes it easier to comment.

What other tips have you got to help us communicate more?

What comments have you had that have turned into great relationships?

Or even sales?

WEDNESDAY 15 February 1,566 impressions

I bumped into a friend of mine the day before, well actually both of them, Mr & Mrs and we got chatting about LinkedIn and Mrs was saying how she didn’t like the personal posts, the over sharing and the virtue signalling.

Obviously I tried to explain that LinkedIn is turning into a huge networking platform and although I managed to sway Mr into loving LinkedIn, I do not think that mrs was changing her point of view.

But OMG, what great content. So I shared it with my audience and it has become my best performing post in the last 90 days!

All from a conversation!!

It just goes to show that there is content EVERYWHERE, you just need to listen and keep your eyes peeled eh?

Here’’s the post

Is LinkedIn too full of people oversharing and as a platform is LinkedIn losing its way?

What do you think?

I had a chat with a friend last night in real life, not online. She hadn't realised I did a bit on LinkedIn and was bemoaning how it's gone too much like Facebook.

I tried to explain that it's great because we get to find out more about people whom we want to connect with and it's more than just a business-to-business platform.

Her counter-argument was people share too much personal information and she doesn't like the increased virtue signalling.

We are all different eh?

I for one LOVE LinkedIn and how it is evolving. 💚 💛

It's all about social for me. It's my virtual water cooler and I have made so many friends from being more active on here.

I've also started and grown a business, so I have a lot to celebrate.

What do you think?

I reckon she's just not connected to the right people ❤️

Let me know what you think about the way LinkedIn is evolving and do you have stories of your great connections or big wins from being active on LinkedIn

THURSDAY 16 February 1,580 impressions

I was poorly sick on Wednesday and had to cancel pretty much everything and crawl into bed. But the overwhelming thought of the day was how lovely each of my clients were to help me to get better. Not one of them were negative about me letting them down.

On the contrary.

So I celebrated that fact with my post!!

Here it is.

Do you have the best clients?

Some business moan about the odd rogue client eh?

I speak with many small business owners about sacking some clients because of scope creep, poor records, or just being too demanding.

I never have any thoughts like that with my clients.

And yesterday just proved how awesome they are.

I was struck down with a 24hr tummy bug which put me in my bed all day. 🤢 I tried to work, but had no energy.

So a few messages to my clients all resulted in a similar message.

The messages back were along the lines of this

"take care and I hope you feel better soon! Just go back to bed for now, And please don't be sorry - it's ok." 💚 💛

I'm feeling better today, but taking it easy but just grateful that my clients are awesome. If you are waiting for something from me, please be patient, I'm getting there 😁

Tell us about your awesome clients. I bet you have a few too eh?

FRIDAY 17 February 1,164 impressions

My Friday gratitude post. I love doing this. All week I add people to my list and then give them a shout out.

What are you grateful for? Why not start it for yourself too?

What are you grateful for this week?

Do you ever stop to reflect, and remind yourself how lucky you are?

Every Friday I like to share my gratitude as a way to say thanks to everyone who has made my week brilliant. I also hope to inspire you to do the same.

What are YOUR highlights for this week? How did it go?

⭐️ 🥳 🙏 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐒. 🙏 🥳 ⭐️

Who or what has impacted your week?

The photo is of the lovely Julianna Nagy who took my book to the top of a mountain for a photo. 🗻 Does this mean that I have made it? The book has 101 ideas for content, but this is another one, so Julianna is making great use of it. Thank you, Julianna, this is epic. 🥳

My 28th Cohort. This week I've been running my LinkedIn Daily Habit Workshop with my 28th group. What a great week of learning and discovery for all of us.

Thank you guys, you rock! 💚 💛 ⭐️

Big up to Nikolai Naylor. Every week we meet up for an hour. We say what we're doing with our books then catch up again an hour later having spent 1 whole hour dedicated to writing our respective books. Great accountability. Thank you, Nikolai 📗 📒

Thanks also to Dan Cockerton and Jordan Vickery for signing me up to be a panel host at Digital Accountancy Show in June. I'll be chatting with some LinkedIn superstars to find out what they do and have a bit of fun too. Thanks guys 🙏

Finally a big THANK YOU to my lovely clients for their understanding when I was poorly and to everyone who sent get-well messages and orders to go to bed.

You know who you are. Thank you 💚 💛 ❤️

Now I've shared my thanks, who are you going to thank and what are you grateful for this week?

Don't be shy 💚 💛

What an INCREDIBLE week!

Has the algorithm changed again, or did I do better?

Here is the breakdown.

Last week 11,273 impressions were down a massive 35% and 493 engagements were down by 17%

This was a sliding downward spiral, but just look at this week!!

This week an outrageous 28,800 impressions up a massive 128% and 767 engagements up by 37% too so not sure what happened. Did I up my game or did the algorithm change again? My content was reaching the right places.

I just need to keep doing this and it wasn’t all about the photo’s either eh?

Here’s my best 5 posts this week. Proves the pint that photo’s are not necessary!

If you want a hand with your content please get in touch, sign up for my weekly email that gives 5 new content ideas each week. I call it the Monday Nudge or why not check out my content book?
